Ken Rynne Unplugged!
Ken Rynne of “Planet Washington,” Writer & Performer, a former choirboy is the son of a Boston Irish cop who acted with The Tonight Show’s Ed McMahon in Lowell, MA. He recorded an album at age 9 and performed with The Boston Symphony Orchestra in Robert Schumann’s Goethe’s Faust. Selected to sing with The Greater Bostonians appearing in two hour-long television specials, and recording two albums (classical and pop tunes), Ken won a Music Medal for Excellence from Boston Latin School. He studied government at Georgetown where he sang with The Georgetown Chimes, Georgetown’s renowned a cappella group.
He practiced energy law but why practice law, when you can help write it? While working on Capitol Hill as Senate energy counsel, House Banking Counsel, and Senate Leadership aide, Ken moonlighted with The Capitol Steps and wrote and performed with Washington’s annual Hexagon Show.
In 2006, as recounted in US News Editor Kerry Hannon’s “What’s Next? Follow Your Passion and Find Your Dream Job” (Chronicle Books 2010), Ken left a rewarding career with MBNA America Bank to start Planet Washington. Ken has shared the stage with his mentor the legendary Mark Russell.
Ken is now producer, writer, blogger, and performer (with piano accompanist) at Planet Washington. He has performed on WETA. WHUR, WGBH, PBS, NPR, at The National Press Club, The Kennedy Center, The Improv, Harvard, Georgetown, The Bovine Metropolis (Denver) & “wherever 2 or 3 are gathered – with cash.”
